Estimates follow the NEC Article 220 load method: 3 VA/sq ft general lighting, two 1,500 VA kitchen circuits and one 1,500 VA laundry circuit (not reducible), a 100%/35% demand factor on general loads, full appliance nameplates, +25% for the largest motor, +25% reserve, and a high-altitude derate (~3% per 1,000 ft). Natural-gas output is derated slightly vs. propane. Load-shedding modules or a managed ATS can let a smaller unit cover a larger home. Final sizing, motor inrush, and site conditions are confirmed in your free custom design.

Built for the Front Range

We know Colorado backup systems.

Colorado homeowners face unique risks: severe winter storms, wildfire-related outages, high-wind events, and aging grid infrastructure.

A whole-home generator keeps you running.

When the grid drops, your home doesn't skip a beat:

  • Furnace keeps running
  • Sump pumps stay active
  • Refrigeration doesn't fail
  • Security systems remain online
  • Home stays livable through extended outages

Generator + solar & battery: the ultimate backup strategy.

Already have solar? Considering battery storage? We design hybrid systems that combine solar panels, battery storage, and a Generac standby generator — layered protection where short outages are covered by batteries and long outages by your generator.

Good to know

Common Generac generator questions.

It's permanently installed outside your home and connected to your electrical system and fuel source (natural gas or propane). When an outage occurs, it automatically starts within seconds and restores power — even if you're not home.

Yes. A properly sized whole-home generator can run heating and cooling, kitchen appliances, lighting, well pumps, and other critical systems. We size the system to your home's electrical load and backup priorities.

A whole-house generator is fully automatic, permanently installed, and safely connected to your panel. A portable generator requires manual setup, refueling, and extension cords, and only powers limited devices. For reliability and safety, a standby generator is the superior solution.

It can run continuously for days or even weeks during an outage, as long as it has fuel. Systems connected to natural gas can operate indefinitely, making them ideal for extended outages.

Most run on natural gas (most common) or propane for homes without gas service. We'll help determine the best fuel option based on your property and utility availability.

Most Generac generator installations are completed in 1–2 days, depending on electrical complexity, gas work, and permitting. Solar Wave handles the entire process, including permits and inspections.

Yes. Installation requires electrical and often mechanical or gas permits. Solar Wave manages all permitting, inspections, and utility coordination to ensure your system is fully code-compliant.

Yes. Generac generators include mobile monitoring, so you can check system status, maintenance alerts, and performance from your phone or computer.

Typically routine service once per year — oil changes, inspections, and system testing. Solar Wave can help coordinate ongoing service to keep your generator ready when you need it.

Each serves a different purpose. Battery storage is ideal for short outages and energy optimization; whole-home generators are best for long-duration outages; hybrid systems provide the highest resilience. We can help design the right solution — or a combination of both.
